Becoming a CWUG Member

CWUG is a free, non-profit membership organization. By registering you become a member and request a portal account.

Because the portal exists to support and enable the CWUG membership, we have a "use your real name" registration policy and an actual human reviews and approves member registrations. You will receive email notification when your new account is approved.

CWUG Web Portal Terms of Use

This is an agreement ("Agreement") between you and the Chicago Windows User Group (“CWUG”). This Agreement governs your use of any Web site or Web page operated by CWUG (collectively, the "CWUG Web Portal").
CWUG provides this Web Portal and related services subject to your compliance with the terms and conditions set forth below. Your use of this Web Portal constitutes your acceptance of these terms and conditions. Please read the following information carefully.
A.   Intellectual Property Rights 
In addition to works of CWUG, this site also contains matter covered by copyright licensed to and owned by third parties or assigned to and owned by others. Additionally, this site contains individuals' names and likenesses, and trademarks and other intellectual property owned by third parties. You should not assume anything on this site is necessarily in the public domain.
B.   Using this Site 
1. Acceptable use:  You agree not to post or use any information from this site for any advertising or solicitation for products or services without the CWUG’s advance written permission. You agree to use your real name for your CWUG account, to register for only one account, not to use a false email address, and not to share your CWUG Web Portal password. If a person using a username is not the one who is officially registered with CWUG as the owner of that username, then "sharing" has occurred and all usernames associated with the owner of the shared username will be disabled. You also agree not to transmit, post, or distribute anything that is obscene, libelous, abusive, vulgar, threatening, discourteous or otherwise objectionable, violates any law or rights of any party, or a virus or other harmful material. You will not use the CWUG Web Portal to transmit, either directly or indirectly, any unsolicited bulk e-mail or unsolicited commercial e-mail (“spam”).  Users are solely liable for any damage resulting from any infringement of rights or other harm resulting from such submissions or transmissions. Although it is not CWUG's practice to edit materials or messages posted by users of this site or its contents, CWUG reserves the right (but is not obligated) to delete user messages or materials in whole or in part. 
2. Commercial use: You may not use this site for trading, sales, or commercial purposes.
3. Submissions: You may only post materials for which you have the copyright or other permission to distribute electronically. You may not violate, plagiarize, or infringe on the rights of third parties, including copyright, trademark, trade secret, privacy, personal, publicity, moral or proprietary rights. You promise and represent that any uploaded or included materials will be owned by you or in the public domain.  By submitting any file, comment, list items, and personally-identifiable information such as your email address, name, or postal address, you are warranting that you are 18 years of age and have attained the age of majority in the province, state, or country in which you reside and that any information that you submit is correct.  By submitting any material (including but not limited to suggestions, ideas, messages, and artwork) to or through this site, you automatically grant (or warrant that the owner of such materials has expressly granted) CWUG and its members the royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual nonexclusive right to use, transmit, and distribute all or part of such material in any form and in or by any medium now known or hereafter developed, for any purpose without compensation. The terms of this section will survive any termination of this agreement.
C.   Disclaimers and Warranties 
This site and others accessible through it may contain material provided by third parties (such as information, opinions, data, software, or other content). This material does not necessarily originate from CWUG. CWUG bears no responsibility for material or services provided or as provided by third parties, or for the quality of information provided through these other sites and computer systems. Links to other resources are provided as a convenience for informational purposes only, and links to other sites, or references to any person, organization, product, process, or service should not be construed as endorsement, recommendation, or favoring of these organizations or positions they may take by CWUG, or any of its sponsors, or contractors.
THE MATERIALS ON THE CWUG WEB PORTAL ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AND CWUG DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF TITLE, MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMISSIBLE BY APPLICABLE LAW.
EACH USER EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGES THAT USE OF THE CWUG WEB PORTAL, CWUG SPONSORS' SERVICES, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE CONTENTS IS AT THE USER'S SOLE RISK. CWUG DOES NOT WARRANT THAT ITS WEB PORTAL, ITS CONTRACTORS' SERVICES, OR ANY OF THEIR RESPECTIVE CONTENTS WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY AVAILABLE, ACCESSIBLE, NONINFRINGING, OR FREE OF ERRORS OR VIRUSES, OR THAT THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN ANY OF THEM IS ACCURATE OR RELIABLE. CWUG WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR INJURY (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES) WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE ANY PART OF ITS WEB SITES OR ITS CONTRACTORS' SERVICES, OR FROM ANYTHING SUBMITTED OR POSTED BY USERS. THE TERMS OF THIS SECTION WILL SURVIVE ANY TERMINATION OF THIS AGREEMENT.
D.   Changes and Termination 
CWUG reserves the right to change or discontinue all or any content or features of its Web Portal and services, or to change all or part of this Agreement, at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting on this site or upon other notice to users. This agreement will be effective until terminated by us or by you. You may terminate this agreement at any time by ceasing your use of the CWUG Web Portal and destroying all materials you obtained from it. CWUG may terminate this agreement, or terminate or suspend your access to the Web Portal at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon such termination or suspension, your right to use the Web Portal will immediately cease. UPON SUCH TERMINATION OR SUSPENSION, ANY INFORMATION YOU HAVE STORED ON THE CWUG WEB PORTAL MAY NOT BE RETRIEVED LATER.
E.   Governing Laws 
This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Illinois.  If a court rules that any provision of this agreement violates state or federal law, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
F. Interpreting The Agreement; Assignment 
If any part of this Agreement is determined to be invalid or unenforceable pursuant to applicable law, then the invalid or unenforceable provision will be deemed superseded by a valid, enforceable provision that most closely matches the intent of the original provision and the remainder of this Agreement will continue in effect. You may not assign this Agreement, or assign, transfer or sublicense your rights, if any, in the CWUG Web Portal. Except as expressly stated herein, this Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and CWUG with respect to the CWUG Web Portal and it supersedes all prior or contemporaneous communications and proposals, whether electronic, oral or written, between you and CWUG with respect to the CWUG Web Portal. The section titles in the Agreement are solely used for the convenience of the parties and have no legal or contractual significance.
G. Copyright and Trademark Notices 
All contents of the CWUG Web Portal are Copyright © 2004 CWUG and/or its sponsors and/or its members. All rights reserved. Microsoft, Windows, and/or other Microsoft products and services referenced herein may also be either trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation and/or its suppliers in the United States and/or other countries. The names of actual companies and products mentioned herein may be the trademarks of their respective owners.
